Many people here in Australia overlook the importance of taking care of their feet every single day. These are the very things that are holding you up and supporting all of your weight. These are the things that allow you to go to work every single day, to climb those stairs and to make your way home in the evenings. We take our feet very much for granted, and maybe today is when you start taking better care of them.

One of the things that you can do is to make an appointment with your sports podiatrist in Brisbane, whose job it is to keep your feet in top shape and to provide you with essential advice to take better care of them. The following are some of the best and easiest ways to take better care of your feet.

  • Check them every day – Before you start saying that you don’t have the time, it doesn’t take long to check your feet and your toenails. It’s not difficult after you have a shower to take a moment to give your feet a thorough inspection. Look for things like swelling, any signs of infection and anything growing that shouldn’t be.
  • Always buy better quality shoes – Everyone’s feet are not the same, and those shoes that look good on your friend and fit them really well may not be the best choice for you. You need to get your feet properly measured and this not only includes how long that they are, but how wide that they are also.
  • Keep your toenails trimmed – This will not only stop you from going through numerous pairs of socks, but it will also cut down your chances of experiencing something like an ingrown toenail. There is also the chance of some kind of bacterial infection, so make sure that you keep them clean and check them on a regular basis.

Other pieces of advice would be to invest in a quality pair of socks and ones that are hopefully made from cotton. Dead skin builds up on your feet, and this is why you need to take the time to remove this. Make sure that you dry your feet thoroughly with a towel or just let them dry in the air. Apply a moisturiser to them on a regular basis, to avoid things like cracked heels.
