Dental Restorations

Restorative dentistry is a branch of dentistry focusing on repairing and replacing teeth. Dental restoration is the process by which a damaged or missing tooth can be restored. It’s typically done to replace lost teeth with artificial ones. Depending on your needs, restorative dentistry can involve everything from simple fillings to tooth implants and crowns. Each of these has its pros and cons.

Restorations to a dental structure become a seamless process when patients visit a professional Dental Laboratory. Any such laboratory is expected to have the expertise to create functional and properly-fitting dental restoration products.

In this article, check out the different types of restorations most commonly available.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are restorations that fit over the top of the natural tooth. It is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over the existing tooth. There are many benefits associated with receiving a dental crown:

They can be single or multiple-unit and are used to:

  • Cover damaged teeth and/or restore their shape, size, and form.
  • Improve appearance (cosmetic reasons).
  • Strengthens damaged or weak teeth by giving them more support.
  • Prevents further damage from occurring to weakened or fractured teeth.
  • Corrects unevenly spaced or shaped teeth, helping you achieve a healthy smile.
  • Protects your gums from receding in areas without enough bone coverage. This can help prevent gum diseases such as periodontitis (gum disease) and tooth loss.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a dental restoration that can replace one or more missing teeth. It stabilizes and holds the surrounding teeth in their proper positions while replacing the functionality of missing teeth.

A bridge consists of two crowns (caps) on the abutment teeth connected by an artificial tooth attached to them with a metal framework.

During treatment, dental professionals first prepare the abutment teeth for crowns by removing any decay and/or stains before taking molds, which are sent to a dental lab. This is where they are reproduced into crowns. The new bridge is then bonded in place between these prepared abutments.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a good option for replacing missing teeth. They can replace individual teeth or an entire row of teeth. By anchoring onto the jawbone, dental implants hold the new tooth in place and provide a sturdy foundation for chewing food, speaking, and smiling.

Another use of dental implants is that they help prevent gum disease. This is because they stabilize the gums around the area where they’re implanted in the jaw. This prevents further damage to your gums and any infection from spreading throughout your mouth.

Occlusal Appliances

Mechanical occlusal appliances work like braces. However, they are placed on the rear of your teeth instead of the front. These devices help to move your molars into proper alignment and prevent further damage to the tooth enamel.

The best part? Besides being able to eat all the food you want while wearing these devices, they’re removable. So, they can be easily taken out at night or when eating chips or soup.

Final Words

The type of dental restoration you choose will depend on the condition of your teeth. It also depends on the size and shape of your mouth. Apart from these, what you need is a reputed Dental Laboratory to have quality dental products. A professional company will have the best solutions.
