Bad breath – one of the most common concerns and causes of social anxiety for many people. Has bad breath made you avoid social interactions, too? You’re not alone.

Bad breath happens for various reasons, depending on your dental care habits and the food you consume. Store-bought remedies can be costly and may not be good for your health. The good news is you can fix it with things you can find in your own home! With advice from Dental Implants Harrisburg NC, we will solve this unpleasant problem and help you regain good breath and self-confidence.

Table of Contents

  • Keep a good dental care
  • Drink more water
  • Balance your diet habits
  • Make natural mouthwash
  • Cut the tobacco products out of your daily habits
  • Start using herbal products
  • Use mints and gums without sugar
  • Regular dentists visits
  • Final thoughts

Keep a good dental care

Good oral hygiene is the first and most essential thing to avoid bad breath. Brushing your teeth at least twice daily and flossing regularly to remove the excess food stuck between your teeth is crucial. Remember to clean your tongue with the tongue scraper or the back of your toothbrush to clear the bacteria that periodically accumulate on your tongue. Bacteria and plaque are often the leading cause and contributors to smelly breath.

Drink more water

Another important aspect of good dental care is hydration. A dry mouth is often the cause of smelly breath: water and saliva help with the bacteria that cause the unpleasant odor. Just keep in mind that this only refers to water, as soft drinks like sodas or juices can cause more bacteria to appear.

Balance your diet habits

A crucial factor in an effort to achieve good breath is your diet habits. It’s best to avoid strong-smelling foods that leave an intense scent in your mouth. For example, if consumed regularly, spices and vegetables like onions, garlic, and tomato sauce can cause long-lasting bad breath. Avoiding those particular foods can help you prevent foul breath.

On the other hand, foods high in fiber can help with saliva production; saliva helps regulate mouth cleaning. Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and oranges to combat bad breath.

Make natural mouthwash

A few practical homemade mouthwash recipes are as effective as store-bought ones. Many mouthwash brands contain alcohol in the list of ingredients, which is a significant downside because alcohol causes the mouth to dry much faster. So, making a natural alternative is an easy and smart choice! The two easiest and most popular homemade mouthwash recipes are saltwater and baking soda-based.

Mixing salt with water and then rinsing your mouth with it will help get rid of bacteria and maintain a good pH level in your mouth.

Baking soda is good in neutralizing a foul scent from your mouth; all you need to prepare the mix is a cup of hot water and a teaspoon of baking soda.

Cut the tobacco products out of your daily habits

Smoking and consuming tobacco products lead to awful breath and contribute to many dental and overall health problems. Quitting nicotine products and finding a healthier alternative will improve your breath and contribute to your overall well-being.

Start using herbal products

Herbs and tea can improve your breath significantly. Fresh herbs like basil, mint, or parsley cover up your breath pretty strongly; chewing them after a meal will do the job.

Natural tea, especially peppermint and green tea, has excellent antibacterial properties that can help reduce the bacteria levels in your mouth and improve your overall dental health.

Use mints and gums without sugar

Mints and chewing gums will significantly improve your breath, but only if you choose the sugar-free options. Chewing gums boosts saliva production, and saliva helps with washing away piled-up bacteria and keeps your mouth fresh.

Sugar-free mints won’t stimulate saliva production but will mask bad breath and refresh you. Mints are a great short-term solution for bad breath, but you can’t use them as an alternative for dental hygiene.

Regular dentists visits

Practicing good oral health at home is a crucial part of the dental care process, but it shouldn’t exclude regular checkups at dentists. They are essential to ensure you have optimal oral health and to stay updated about the state of your oral condition.

Final thoughts

Bad breath can be a really unpleasant factor while engaging in social interactions, but it doesn’t have to be a permanent problem. If you carefully follow these tips and implement them in your daily dental health routine, bad breath will disappear quickly! If you stay consistent in combat with bad breath, you will get rid of it and improve your oral health in the long run.
