From the onset of teething through to adolescence, our teeth are repeatedly being exposed to severe complications. That is why, prevention, as well as the development of good oral hygiene habits, are the prerequisites to ensuring healthy, happy smiles.

If you have one or more teeth missing and you won’t like to have a bridge or full or partial dentures, you might consider asking the best dentist in Dubai whether you’d be a good candidate for dental implants.

Dental implants vow to provide a more natural tooth replacement than dentures. They can easily attach straight to the jawbone because of their artificiality. To get the maximum benefit from this treatment, your teeth must be in good health apart from missing teeth. Moreover, you should have a fully developed and healthy jawbone so that they can provide support to the implants.

Read this article so as to enhance your knowledge about dental implants.

What Do Dental Implants Look Like?

Dental implants appear to be more natural when compared to dentures. It shapes like a cylinder or screw, serving as an artificial replacement for the root of a missing tooth. They are made up of titanium or some other material. They won’t cause any severe reaction when attaching to the jawbone and gum tissue.

Dental Implants Procedure

If you’re healthy enough and your dentist also confirms that you are a good candidate for dental implants, they will schedule the procedure. It will either take place at the dentist’s office under local anaesthesia or at a hospital under general anaesthesia. The whole process is dependent upon the patient’s particular dental health needs and the amount of surgery required to place the implant.

It takes several months to complete the process of a dental implant. There are usually three phases involved in the treatment:

Placing the Implant

First, the surgeon will place an implant in your jaw, where it is covered over the gum tissue. Here it is allowed to integrate into the jawbone for three to six months.

Attachment of the Post

Then, the post is attached to the implant; thus, allowing the gum tissue to grow up around it. There are some cases in which the post and the implant are placed at the same time. They serve as a medium for the replacement tooth.

Crown Attachment

A customized crown is attached to the implant post.

How Long Does a Dental Implant Procedure Take?

You need to keep this in mind that it takes several hours for the placement of dental implants and more than one procedure may be needed. So, if your teeth are more prone to infection, you should not get this treatment.

If you’re healthy enough to undergo dental implants, make sure to follow the suggested oral hygiene instruction by the dentist. This strictly includes but is not limited to twice-daily tooth brushing and daily flossing so as to keep your new teeth clean and healthy.

Who Should Get Dental Implants?

Know that dental implants are not the best choice for everyone. These include

  • Pregnant women
  • People with immunosuppression due to the increased risk of infection during surgery
  • Chronic illness
  • Children because their jawbones are still developing
  • People who grind or clench their teeth as this habit can put too much pressure on implants

In all, if you are planning to get dental implants in Dubai, make sure to discuss your concerns with the dentist. Analyze all the pros and cons before making any final decision.
