We all know the toll bad teeth can take on our confidence; bad teeth can make you shy away from talking too much in public settings and may make you feel down every time you look in the mirror. You’re probably sick and tired of wishing you had perfect looking teeth and are now searching for a solution to your problem. It may be worth looking into veneers which are a wonderful new way to conceal any dental flaws you may be suffering with. Unlike most dental procedures, getting veneers Liverpool is a painless dental cosmetic procedure which aims to make your teeth look more appealing and free of imperfections.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain moulds which are custom-made to fit onto the exterior surface of your natural teeth. they are designed to mimic the shape, size and colour of your natural teeth so that no one notices the difference. Fortunately, veneers can address a multitude of cosmetic issues making it a popular treatment option for many patients.

As getting veneers is a cosmetic dental procedure, it only focuses on improving the aesthetic of the exterior of your teeth and does not actually address any dental issue that you may have; it is also important to note that if you have any pre-existing dental infections or diseases such as periodontitis, your dentist will be unable to fit veneers on for you until the dental issue is resolved.

What dental issues can veneers resolve?

Veneers are able to conceal a range of cosmetic dental issues, these include:

  • Chips on your teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Permanent stains on the teeth
  • Cracks in your teeth
  • Short teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Worn out teeth

While some of these issues can be resolved with other forms of orthodontic treatments, you may not want to undergo treatments that take an extended period of time to complete, so in this case veneers would be the perfect option for you!

Who can get veneers?

Veneers are more commonly offered to adults above the age of eighteen who require minimum work done to their natural teeth. Veneers are not offered to children or young teenagers as it is usually around the age of eighteen that your mouth and teeth stop growing. However in order for your orthodontist to give you the go ahead, your natural teeth must be in a suitable condition to get veneers in the first place; this means they must be of a good standard of oral hygiene. If you are suffering with dental infections or diseases, the orthodontist may not carry out the treatment as this may aggravate any existing dental issues you have and inhibit the healing process. Therefore, if you do have any pre-existing dental health issues, we strongly recommend addressing and resolving them prior to having veneers put in.

What are the benefits of getting veneers?

Getting veneers comes with great benefits, allowing you to avoid having to undergo any extensive dental procedures to improve how your teeth look. Porcelain veneers look almost identical to natural teeth making it difficult to notice that you have got any work done. Your dentist will ensure to match your veneers in shape, size, and shade to your natural teeth so that no one can notice the difference. They are also extremely stain-resistant which is important considering they can last so long if they are taken care of properly, but despite this it is essential that you continue practising good oral hygiene to avoid staining your natural teeth.

What does the process involve?

The process of getting veneers is a lot simpler than most dental treatments. As with almost all dental procedures, you will need to have a consultation with your dentist to discuss a full medical history, to discuss any questions you may have regarding the treatment and so that the dentist can have a thorough check of your teeth and gums to ensure that they are in a suitable condition to undergo the treatment.

When all the necessary checks have been done, your dentist will prepare your natural teeth so that they can hold the veneers properly. This, in most cases, involves filing down some of your natural teeth to remove a thin layer of the enamel so that the veneer can be attached to it securely. This is not a painful procedure as your enamel contains no nerves, however if you feel anxious, inform your dentist who can offer you different forms of sedation. Once your enamel has been filed down, the dentist will proceed to make an impression of your mouth; there are two main ways in which the dentist does this: either using a tray containing soft putty or by using a three-dimensional scanner. Once the veneers are made, your dentist will bond them onto your natural teeth, securing them in place permanently.
