Aging is an inevitable part of human life – and women age differently than men. Despite humanity’s best efforts to achieve immortality, we still haven’t found the magical elixir. Typically, aging processes like menopause occurs in your late 40s – you might want to opt for the testing for the menopause and measure your hormone levels so you know what your body is going through.

By becoming aware of what changes you will be going through in your 40s, you won’t be afraid of aging – rather, you will embrace it and even have remedies ready to deal with the changes. Here are essential ways your body will change in your 40s. Keep reading!

Slower Metabolism

Instead of worrying about aging, you will want to embrace it by educating yourself about what to expect when you hit a certain age. Usually, women undergo more physical changes than men – especially when they reach their 40s.

After 40, you can expect your metabolism to slow down. As we grow older, our body’s energy decreases – even if we work out regularly and don’t change any of our daily activities. Since the body slows down, our metabolism slows down, which is why our caloric intake gets burned slowly.

Subsequently, the unburnt calories transform into fats. Instead of getting worried about the accumulation of body fat, you will want to change your exercise routine and diet. You will want to opt for smaller portions and opt for high-intensity workout sessions.

Thinning Hair

Another physical change that you can expect in your 40s is thinning hair – the underlying reason for which is a decrease in estrogen. Estrogen plays a critical part in women’s hair growth. With the approach of menopause, you can expect a decrease in estrogen and, eventually, hair thinning.

Nonetheless, to reduce the chances of thinning hair, you might want to reduce the frequency of shampooing your hair.

This way, you will allow a better production of natural oils on your scalp to improve your hair texture. You will also want to use the conditioner regularly and delimit the use of any styling tools and chemical treatments.

Memory Loss

Once you hit your 40s, you can experience memory loss as well. It is quite common to experience some loss in your brain function – especially between the period of pre-menopause and post-menopause. The underlying reason for potential memory loss is a decrease in estrogen.

Nonetheless, you don’t have to accept potential memory loss as an inevitable part of your life – there are certain things you can do to curb memory loss. If you know how things work in the brain, you know that the brain’s operational efficacy depends on the oxygen level in one’s bloodstream.

So, you will want to step out more, indulge in regular exercise, and learn about stress management. More importantly, you will want to solve crosswords and puzzles and even read books that you would never read before.

Brain exercise is essential for improving brain functionality. Also, you should know that your brain functionality will bounce back after menopause – so it isn’t permanent. Your brain will adjust to the lower estrogen levels.
